Youre a UX content strategist Maybe youve never called yourself that, but you love finding ways to describe real human needs in plain language, then creating solutions that actually help meet those needs Youre a natural storyteller, information architect, and UX strategist You know how to talk about super complex ideas in accessible ways You have experience doing research to see how real people are using what you created Youre also a genuinely nice person with humility and integrity

Designing for impactthats our design team mission We strongly emphasize a design mindset, rapid iteration, and lean developmentno matter what were working on

THE ROLE

Were looking for a UX content strategist to help anticipate and shape the conversations we have with our customers throughout the banking experience (like our app and website, but also in-person at our branches and cafes) Partnering with our product and design teams in both NYC and McLean, Virginia, youll use language to design end-to-end user experiences

A typical day in this role

Partner with a team of fellow designers and product managers to outline the conversation flow and navigation ideas for one of our digital bank experiences

Brainstorm with a teammate on how to make error messages sound more human, then spend some time re-writing a handful yourself

Help us host a content power hour with the legal and compliance teams to tackle quick content needs for your product and design partners

Join a Slack conversation with content strategists across Capital One to chat content standards, get feedback on a sentence youre mulling over, and share photos of your pets

Write a user-testing script for redesigning our mobile deposit flow

Grab coffee with a product manager to hear what theyre super excited about and how you can help

Join a Capital One design team all-hands to see a demo of the awesome thing another team built

Answer email (were all trying to spend less time on this, but lets be real)

Youll wear these hats often in this role

Customer advocate digging into who our customers are and what language they use, then ensuring our products speak their language

UX writer and writing coach creating product content thats clear, human, and useful, and helping others do the same

Editor cutting or changing what doesnt work

UX designer establishing a cohesive conversation with users, both within and across our many digital experiences

Researcher talking to real customers to understand their needs, creating content that meets those needs, then testing and iterating on it until its just right

Data scientist youll use data to drive your messaging decisions and support/dispel your assumptions

Connector, champion of others, relationship expert noting where work overlaps across the team and bringing together folks whove never worked together before

Want to focus on content marketing strategy

Prefer personally owning a project to coaching others collaboratively through a projectalmost everything youll do in this role will be co-created

Prefer to hop over to a new project every few weeks (as a horizontal team, we do move around across project work, but prefer to dig in and get to know our products well for a few months at least, so we get even better at designing for them)

Basic Qualifications

At least two years of experience with writing for the web or technical writing

At least one year of experience working in user experience design

Preferred Qualifications

A masters degree in communications, human-computer interaction (HCI), or design

3 years of experience with digital content strategy

2 years of experience designing for digital products and interactions

Experience working with remote teams (were based in both DC and NYC)
