Job Summary

As a Data Protection Technical Support Engineer, you provide support to customers, customer support personnel, and field support staff that are focused on diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and debugging NetApp products You respond to situations where first-line product support has failed to isolate or fix problems in hardware or software products, and you ensure delivery of optimal results You must be a take charge professional, with demonstrated technical problem-solving skills; a technical team leader and a subject matter expert; and have a strong customer service orientation and experience

Essential Functions

Provide a high level of proactive and reactive services by building relationships with the customer to best serve their needs
Work collaboratively with customers in potentially stressful situations, while providing professional and courteous technical expertise
Work with customer and other NetApp technical teams to define technical problems, determine solutions and assist customers in implementing the fix
May be asked to quality check technical product documentation

Job Requirements

In-depth knowledge of
o UNIX configuration, administration and technical support
o Windows server configuration, system administration and technical support
o Fibre Channel HBA configuration and installation
o NAS and/or SAN storage and surrounding infrastructure
o Network Attached Storage protocols experience (NFS/CIFS/iSCSI) and related required protocols (DNS, NIS, and Active Directory)
o Network architectures including the roles of routers, and switches

Strong understanding of
o RAID and storage systems
o NFS, the UNIX remote file sharing protocol
o CIFS, the Windows NT remote file sharing protocol
o Data ONTAP operating system and NetApp clustering
o Knowledge of Backup and database applications
o NetApp Data Protection technologies such as Snapshot, SnapMirror, SnapVault, NDMP, SnapRestore, SnapLock, Storage Virtual Machine Disaster Recovery (SVM DR), Third Party Backup Software
o NetApp Storage Management Software Suite
o UNIX/Linux configuration, administration and technical support
o Microsoft Windows environment configuration, system administration and technical support
o The interoperability of enterprise applications (such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and SAP) with NetApp storage systems and solutions
o Server, and Desktop Virtualization Solutions (such as VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix)


Typically requires a Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education/certifications/training and applicable professional work experience
