Job Description:

The Payments Services Technology team, based across 10 countries, are responsible for the IT systems that facilitate the payments processing, sanctions screening, and the clearing and settling of all payments via SWIFT and in-country Domestic Payment schemes

Payment infrastructure allows our customers and clients to move funds freely and fast across the globe, pay their suppliers, credit salaries, pay taxes directly to authorities and transfer money via multiple channels

Job Summary

Payments systems use the Messaging infra and applications based on IBM MQ solution for all incoming and outgoing payments flows This is a critical component in the bank processing the daily payments flows across regions

As part of the nextGen transformation, bank is also leading a multi-year program to API enable the architecture thus going away from monolithic and tightly coupled systems to Mcroservices based loose coupled integration

This role is a leadership and transformation role for delivering multi-year roadmap of API implementation/MicroServices based Architecture to help build new age payments infrastructure for delivering top of the class payments products and services to our clients and customers

Two facets of the role include ownership of the global messaging application infra (based on MQ solution) which is in production as Tier-0 system as well as overseeing the implementation of the nextGen API solutions within Payments domain

This role will lead change initiation, design and delivery and would be ultimately accountable for successful delivery of the programme and ensuring benefits realisation To operate at an executive level and engage and influence a wide spectrum of stakeholders and partners across the bank

The role will encompass accountability for finances, application design, development and testing through to production implementation, and support/maintenance in production subsequently

Ensure strong operating environment in collaboration with Payments Operations and various Lines of businesses (LOBs) leading to high quality delivery, faster time-to-market and continual productivity improvements

Provide thought leadership on APIs, Microservices Solution Design, innovation and transformation, and have the ability to evolve, modify and adapt in a dynamic environment

Managing the required cross-skilling and re/up-skilling of the organization to deliver strong change agenda

Building partnership with key vendors to deliver the service levels required and support the transformation

Manage various senior management stakeholders in across various Technology and Business teams

Building capability for effective engagement and execution as well as building thought leadership for wider adoption of DevOps/Agile, APIs, reusable services and emerging Payments technologies

Lead and drive proactive risk management culture

Ownership and Accountability in a matrix structure


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

Own planning and tracking of financial forecasts, resource planning

Managing budget run-rate to forecast and reporting to Program Management and Payments Delivery Committee (PDC) on regular basis

Ensure optimal use of resources for attaining financial goals

People Management

Develop and manage high performing team to meet present and future needs

Develop Talent and leadership at all levels including opportunities for growth, stretch roles, global leadership and succession for key/critical roles

Attract, develop and retain talent across delivery leadership and technical/functional SME

Lead performance management including compensation, vertical/lateral progression and reward & recognition globally

Delivery and Application Management

Owner of the global Payments Messaging platforms, coordination with Regional instances, issue resolution, core Engineering support Also owner of the global Engineering team providing upgrades and mandatory changes to the core platform

Work very closely with the global Program manager to deliver the API Architecture and Solution implementation Own and drive the engineering teams in India to deliver the highest quality solutions for both Platform APIs as well as System APIs (working closely with the partner Payment systems and also implement the lower level APIs for the agreed functionality)

Collaborate with Payments Operations and LOBs for reviewing/prioritizing, planning and on-time and cost effective deliveries of order-book

Demonstrate strong Programme Management skills

Analyse and address/fix delivery issues in a timely manner

Lead and provide direction and guidance as needed to the delivery team

Responsible for business communications to stakeholders and Payments Services (PS) management and any escalations

Active involvement and ownership of Support activities covering stability, efficiency and improvement initiatives

Lead and Manage regional IT Service Management teams and liaise closely with Regional Payments Operations teams for effective service management

Ensure IT estate including Hardware and Software are remediated before OEM end-of-life and have latest security patching

Lead and Drive RTB efficiency initiatives ensuring year-on-year cost efficiency

Proactive Management of cyber security threats, internal and external (in-country regulators like PRA, HKMA, MAS etc) audits

Effective Management of audit items and their timely and satisfactory closure

Desired Experience Profile

Strong Technology experience including 13 years of leadership experience managing both Change and Run functions in large technology organisations preferably in Banking and financial services (Payments exp is a plus)

Strong Messaging (MQ) and API/Microservices experience and knowledge Strong hands-on Technology expertise to lead the diverse tech delivery teams Be a go-getter and challenge the status-quo

Experience of managing mid-to-large teams including managers, engineers, designers, large vendor resources etc across multiple locations and geographies in matrix model

Ability to effectively drive and lead change in a global organization like HSBC in terms of scale, size and complexity

Strong knowledge and experience of managing financial, operation, market and regulatory drivers impacting complex and dynamic technology environment

Solid understanding of global technology trends especially and Payments domain

Sound experience of building, leading, developing and retaining high performing teams

Effective decision-making, influencing, critical thinking and problem solving skills

Strong business and technology acumen, and proven experience in building a vision and developing strategy supporting the vision

Strong written and verbal communication skills
