Description

Skills include installing, configuring and maintaining a backup and recovery environment that may consist of backup appliances DataDomain, physical tape, virtual tape and basic disk Basic knowledge of different operating systems to include Windows, UNIX, Linux, and the ability to setup, configure and maintain various backup and recovery components on those operating systems Installing, implementing, testing, maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting, the capabilities of Backup Software This support requires general knowledge of software and hardware configuration and their functions and in-depth experience in large and complex IT systems implementation, in multiple IT platforms, in the integration of diverse architectures, and in ITIL core processes

Job Responsibilities

Backup policy configuration
Monitor and troubleshoot backups and restores by logging on to the system to review parameters, check logs for errors and make corrections to improve efficiency
File-level backups, VM snapshot backups, NDMP, Database Application-type Backups
Knowledge of Storage units for NetApp, EMC, and HPE
Capacity planning
DataDomain, basic disk or other backup appliance configuration and replication setup
Tape Library and media configuration and troubleshooting
Configuration of CommVault and Veritas Netbackup software
Perform backup and recovery duties for Windows and Unix systems
Take advantage of CommVault and NetBackup features such as de-duplication and acceleration
Execute incident management, change management and problem management in line with ITIL best practices
Participate in DR testing of operations exercises for various applications
Provide documentation to include change management, process and procedure documentation and incident resolution documentation
Provide training on subject matter areas within the Backup and Recovery Section for less skilled technicians in the assigned technical area of expertise
Support the customer problem resolution process and work with vendors to resolve errors in backup and recovery software
Perform trend analysis on backup performance, recommend configuration changes to the Manager and participate in the planning activities as they relate to backup and recovery

Qualifications

Qualifications

Basic knowledge of different operating systems to include Windows, UNIX, Linux, and the ability to setup, configure and maintain various backup and recovery components on those operating systems
Experience in the use of Windows and Unix software install and configurations
Experience with Windows PowerShell scripting utility
Knowledge of networking protocols used between Windows and Unix operating systems, backup software and backup procedures, preparation of reports and/or accomplishment of other administrative tasks using standard commercial software in a Windows or Unix environment
Capacity planning for backup appliances, disk and tape
Maintaining backup application through proper upgrading and technical refreshes in compliance with vendor software upgrades best practices
As the production backup and recovery environments grow the Backup Administrator shall be able to develop backup solutions utilizing disk, tape and new CommVault and NetBackup features to meet the needs of the expanding environment

In-depth experience in large and complex IT systems implementation, in multiple IT platforms, in the integration of diverse architectures
Proven experience in Enterprise Storage Administration, including SAN arrays, SAN Fiber Channel switches, NAS devised, storage tape devices, cloud storage hardware, enterprise backup solutions and enterprise journaling solutions
Proven experience in Storage Configuration and Management including capacity management and planning
Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure Library (ITIL) functionality
Proven experience in Storage Monitoring, Reporting and Analysis
Proven experience in troubleshooting and complex problem solving of storage operations
courteous and responsive customer support and maintains rapport with customers by developing effective working relationships
general knowledge of the latest technology in the information systems field, as it relates to backup recovery and Storage Systems
Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as work well in groups
Flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules and priorities
Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, and meeting facilitation
Excellent time management and organizational skills

Desired Skills and Competencies

Working knowledge of data center environments
Ensuring the application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices to the systems automation and analysis processes
Working knowledge of the security and technical implementation guidelines

Education and Certifications

BS degree in an IT discipline, or equivalent, and 3 years of related experience
