Sr Director/Managing Director - Risk Management - Bank (15-25 yrs)

We are currently assisting a Premier Bank for the position of Senior Director / Managing Director for the Risk Management function Role will be based in Mumbai and have oversight to multiple hubs of the banks consumer facing technology & operations footprint

Job Summary

The Senior Director / Managing Director, Risk Management will play a critical role in driving the business strategies for the organization

The individual must demonstrate the combination of business acumen and functional knowledge to guide the enterprise risk strategy including but not limited to the responsibility of assessing, monitoring and reporting of all market, credit, operational, information & reputation risks of the Bank

This is accomplished through managing and directing the work of the various functions that report to the incumbent

Department Summary

- The mandate of the Risk Management Department is to identify, measure, monitor and mitigate the risks to which the Bank is exposed

- The Department will identify the inherent risks in all of the Bank?s consumer bank products, activities, processes and systems Coordinate and build out risk management in the context of the global risk management and governance framework

- Evolve risk management framework to support expansion of the business, including new products and customer segments

Job Responsibilities

- Provide vision and leadership to the Risk team

- Provide oversight of the process to manage assets, liabilities, capital and associated risks

- Develop standards and guidelines regarding the techniques, models, sensitivity testing, and stress testing required for effective risk management

- Assess and ensure the effectiveness of the systems and procedures that are used to identify, measure, monitor and report the Bank?s risk exposures

- Establish effective Risk functions with a strong focus on business partnerships, integrity, reliability and the highest quality of professional service to internal and external clients

- Maintain and amend portfolio of risk policies within the organization

- Establish and maintain supporting governance structure to support risk management objectives

- Effectively manage broad set of stakeholders, including local management, global stakeholders, regulatory contacts as well as the bank?s Board

- Add value to the development of the business strategy and establish the strategic Risk agenda to ensure the business needs are anticipated and addressed proactively

- Lead the organization in any Risk change initiatives including but not limited to coaching executives and leaders in/and providing effective communication to the organization

- Guide the development and implementation of government relations and regulatory strategies to ensure the organization is aware of and has its interests represented in industry-related matters

- Provide a Risk Management Framework that outlines the Bank?s approach to risk management and its role within the organization

- Provide risk-based management support for new products, initiatives and processes

- Provide executive leadership in fostering a tone of proactive risk management and control mindedness throughout the organization

- Ensure that the Bank maintains adequate safeguards for physical and informational assets

- Supervise the measurement, monitoring and reporting of credit and market risk against limits

- Ensure proper governance and responsibilities are upheld for the Bank?s risk committees

Leadership Responsibilities

- Lead, manage, coach and develop the Risk teams for continued and higher contributions

- Clearly communicate of the Bank?s vision and strategy to employees

- Work with the Senior Leadership team to approve new products, product enhancements, channels and client segments

- Identify and develop the Bank?s identified high potentials

- Identify KPI?s to measure long and short term success of the Bank

Requirements

- Solid analytical skills

- Strong understanding of all market, credit, operational, information & reputation risks

- Experience working with external regulators

- Knowledge of risk models

- Proficient change management skills

- Proficient interpersonal skills to work with senior executives at operating and board levels

- Proficient strategic planning skills to set objectives necessary to accomplish organizational strategies

- Proficient leadership/management skills to ensure employees are directed, motivated and rewarded adequately

- Proficient problem solving skills to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations

Qualifications

- Masters degree with Risk Certification preferred

- 15+ years experience in a risk management, finance and or consulting environment

- 15+ years in management role

Managing Risk

- Executive Team is accountable for the identification, monitoring, and mitigating of all risks within their respective business area, and to manage those risks in compliance with the Risk Appetite of the Organization

- If any risks exceed the Risk Appetite, it must be escalated to the Risk Management department and to the relevant Senior Management Committee(s)
