Senior Scheduler - Transit / Rail - ( BI 0006G7 )

We are looking for several Senior Schedulers for a large Transit / Rail project in Downtown Toronto

Responsibilities will include

Successfully manage the relationships between the project controls functions, estimating, planning/scheduling, cost control, and risk management for a project or program

Integrate understanding of emerging business/industry trends and the implications of these trends for planning/scheduling

Contribute to the interpretation of the proposal or project contract

Create, implement, and execute the strategy and plan for planning/scheduling activities that supports the overall proposal strategy or project requirements

Develop, via a top-down approach, project work plans and schedules that support the program work processes and milestones

Baseline and issue network-logic-driven schedules that meet the needs of, and are used by, the project team

Update schedules with actual progress and forecast remaining durations, project milestones, and completion dates

Prepare schedule risk analysis to forecast schedule contingencies and related cost impacts

Support contingency management

Supervise the development and issue of accurate and timely project labor hour forecasts

Prepare and issue schedule analysis narratives including recommendations for corrective actions that are used by business group management and project teams to manage the work

Develop, implement, and monitor earned value systems that accurately measure progress and performance

Provide timely feedback to project and business group management Thoroughly understand earned value terms Understand the impacts and results of an earned value report

Supervise the development, approval, and issuance of client and internal status reports that effectively communicate schedule status and identify critical path Motivate the project team to define corrective actions for implementation

Apply practical field experience with planning/scheduling knowledge to identify challenges to the project schedule and suggest mitigation plans

Further develop and define the overall planning function and how this will be delivered during the life of the Program Define and manage the planning team within the program and help to develop its roles and responsibilities Recruit new staff where necessary

Develop and maintain the overall schedule architecture for the Program including the format and content of the component schedules and define the responsibilities for production and integration

Analyze schedule progress and performance, identify potential risks, issues and problem areas and help/facilitate their resolution


Accountable to program management/program controls with matrix responsibility to project/corridor management

Provide client and Jacobs planning and scheduling controls to help ensure that both client and Jacobs meet project schedule goals


Work with responsible program team to provide effective project schedule controls

Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with other project team leads including engineering, procurement, construction, project accounting, and so forth

Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with applicable external entities such as clients, partners, and subcontractors

Participate in planning/schedule user groups (internal and external to the company)

Establish relationships with peers and other industry experts in project controls Leverage memberships and participation in trade associations and industry groups


Develop, implement, and train on standard and project-specific planning/scheduling procedures in accordance with the program procedures

Manage the coordination with other project controls and project team leads to develop deliverables

Identify and communicate key schedule issues to project/construction and operations management in a timely manner to allow corrective action to be implemented


May supervise departmental staff



Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering, project management, or related technical field

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience with increasing responsibility

Understand various types of Canadian specific construction contracts, ie) AFP / P3

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of large, complex, multi-disciplinary rail and construction programs

Demonstrate effective leadership in the execution of project controls activities within the department

Develop and maintain a positive working atmosphere Motivate peers and junior staff

Actively participate in the ongoing development and mentoring of junior staff

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

Be able to effectively communicate complex planning/scheduling and general project controls information to varied audiences including clients, departmental management, engineering, project/construction management, and project teams

Be able to define and prepare accurate and meaningful project status reports and schedule narratives which communicate the status and issues of the project

Be proficient with spreadsheets, word processing software, databases, and report writers

Thoroughly understand planning/scheduling systems as appropriate to support project-specific execution requirements, including calculations performed by the software

Implement and effectively use company-standard project controls systems and industry-standard planning/scheduling systems


Active membership in AACE, PMI, or similar association

PSP or PMI-SP certification a plus
