ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful Senior Associate Scientist / Scientist applicant will have significant experience in laboratory research and a desire to continue in a laboratory focused role This position will join a larger team of scientists across multiple sites focused on advancing Pfizers gene therapy platform The Senior Associate Scientist/Scientist will be a key member of the Gene Therapy Capsid Development team that will support the execution of novel AAV viral vector development projects, including recombinant virus vector design, cloning, and production The scientist will be responsible for working with fellow colleagues to develop novel AAV viral vectors agnostic to a method

Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, a documented ability to troubleshoot technical issues, an ability to plan and carry out experiments independently, and to work with complex instrumentation and software
Takes the initiative to solve scientific problems and contribute to their resolution Able to work in a fast paced team environment with changing priorities Works under minimal supervision
Support laboratory activities by monitoring lab equipment and maintaining a clean and safe working environment
Authors technical reports as needed and contributes to internal/ external publications as appropriate
Evaluate data and provide clear reports that can be shared and transferred to and from cross-functional teams
Pay attention to detail use knowledge of basic laboratory procedures to advance projects under rapidly shifting priorities and timelines Rigorous critical thinking

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Senior Associate Scientist Bachelors Degree with 2-4 years of experience or Masters Degree with 0-2 years of experience with degree in a biological discipline (Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or equivalent)
Demonstrated capabilities in molecular techniques, including plasmid construction, preparation and analysis, RNA, cDNA and genomic DNA preparation, DNA electrophoresis, and qPCR or ddPCR to quantify and analyze viral vector preps
Experience with aseptic technique, strong quantitative bench skills, experience in mammalian cell culture and transfection techniques
Perform in-silico plasmid design, advanced cloning and DNA prep, and experience with VNTI or related program
Able and willing to learn new procedures and techniques
Applicants should be self-motivated, organized, capable of working independently and in a collaborative environment
Ability to prioritize and multi-task concurrent project demands, while maintaining exceptional attention to detail as well as organization
Ability to search for and understand current literature and apply them to projects
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office required eg MS Word and MS Excel

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with mammalian virus culture and viral vector characterization by western blot, mammalian tissue handling, and biodistribution studies
Experience with production, purification, and quantitation of mammalian viral vectors
Experience with bioinformatic processes to evaluate next-generation sequencing data, sequencing analysis software, and large dataset processing
General knowledge of structural biology
Able to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
