Ciena may well be the most important technology company youve never heard of The innovations that wow us (driverless cars), and those we now take for granted (the ability to mobile-stream your favorite show) are the products of ingenuity from some brilliant and forward-thinking companies But those companies rely on Ciena, another vanguard of innovation, to create and advance the underlying networks that bring their breakthroughs to our doorsteps VR, AI, IOT, 5G literally none of it would be possible without the mind-boggling technology that makes the internet itself work For more than 25 years, Ciena has been the global leader in networking strategy, and our technology has been part of the critical infrastructure running within the most advanced companies in the world The Sr Manager of Diagnostic is leading a team of individual contributors to support manufacturing diagnostics for platform hardware development programs The role is responsible overall system-level and board-level design of manufacturing diagnostics, as well as, collaborating with functions such as Hardware Design, Logic Design, Power and Thermal Design, Project Management, Component Engineering, Document Control, SCO (Supply Chain Operations), CM (Contract Manufacturing), and product release support The role is part of an R&D organization that designs, releases and sustains Packet Switching and Router products and associated optics and accessories for deployment in large telco carriers, MSOs, and enterprise managed service providers Product range from desktop, to pizzabox, to outdoor ruggedized units Module-level manufacturing diagnostics support pass go POST (Power On Self Test) of newly assembled modules to functionally validate modules before integrating into systems, as well as, in case of component, PCB, or PCBA assembly errors, isolate likely failure source for lab/CM technician troubleshooting and repair System-level manufacturing diagnostics support pass go POST of newly assembled systems, together with known good golden FRUs such as power supplies, thermal assemblies, pluggable modules and/or optics, including optional extended run-in testing at ambient and/or across the full environmental operating range before packaging into finished good, and/or integration into customer build-to-order configurations, as well as, in case of subsystem or FRU interface errors, or system assembly errors, isolate to likely failure source for contract manufacturer technician troubleshooting and repair Support hardware DVT (Design Verfication Testing) to stimulate specific subsystems or signals under interactive diagnostic menus to validate subsystem/chip functionality and inter-chip/subsystem signal integrity, including margining of power supplies, margining of thermal management subsystems, and margining of clocking sources for validating hardware design across the full operational and environmental and component process envelop Support long term reliability demonstrations with continual system diagnostics and data gathering for demonstrated MTBF activities within environmental chambers Collaborate with SCO manufacturing test engineering on packaging module and system-level diagnostics into CM floor systems for quality management, serialization, and batch and/or component trend failure analysis Support ECO revisions of manufacturing diagnostics for yield improvement, as well as, lifecycle management of component EOL and redesign for cost reduction Support CM during prototype, pilot, and production release phases with transfer of information and training on utilization of the manufacturing diagnostics

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the multi-functional team of individual contributors to support manufacturing diagnostics design activity and product release, based on program priorities, which tend to change from time to time
Coordinate and collaborate with other teams within the hardware design organization and outside teams, such as Supply Chain Operations (SCO)
Participate in formal and informal cross functional meetings to stay in sync with other teams activity and needs, report status of hardware design activity, schedules, risks and dependencies
Track design activities and ensure product release tasks are being performed on time to meet committed product release schedule and/or flag risks and issues to management to trigger a recovery plan
Collaborate with SCO teams, as well as with external Contract Manufacturer (CM) for building engineering prototypes, design for manufacturability, and transition to volume production environment
Proactively manage project risk through the development and execution of a risk management plan to ensure issues/risks are assessed and mitigated
Manage, track, and report project status (schedule, content, quality, and project cost) Proactively manage performance to project contract parameters, escalating to management when parameters are at risk of being exceeded
Document and communicate project status, obstacles and resolutions to management
Support hardware sustaining for requalification/recertification as required for component EOL, supply chain component shortages and alternate sources, regulatory changes, and production yield issues as required to support on-going production of systems
Lead, guide, mentor, train and develop team members
Participate in, or lead, process improvement initiatives as assigned

Bachelor or Master degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering with 10 years of Related experience
Experience in leading and managing a team of individuals, preferably in telecom and MSO networking or similar hardware design environments
