Senior Director, UX Design - Digital Payments, Identity, & Privacy

Were seeking a strong and seasoned design leader whos passionate about discovering and integrating new digital platforms and products that dramatically change peoples experience of banking You will be part of the Enterprise Design leadership team, a team collectively responsible for creating human-centered experiences that both bundle and unbundle the capabilities of Capital One to create value that scales while

This role specifically focuses on our Digital Payments, Identity, and Privacy space You will work with senior partners from multiple lines of business, as well as with product management, marketing and engineering to unlock the value of our digital platforms to serve customers and partners in new and differentiating ways, including

building new levels of security and privacy into our products and services

finding innovative and secure ways for customers use their money

Youll be joining a team with a track record for new innovative digital products You will build and grow a high-performing team of designers who design enterprise platforms and products based on business needs and customer insights, evolve design strategy, and deliver experience changes to scale existing products

You should have a strong bias towards action as a means of proving out and refining product design strategy This requires a sense of innovation discipline, a well-above-average ability to know why, when, and what to research, prototype, pilot, and pivot, and the ability to reach that shared understanding with product and technology partners When success is judged by the ability to contribute net-new value to customers and the business, you must be a design leader that brings a fresh perspective to our space yet can learn the economics that drives the market; plays a strong voice in what will and (especially!) wont work for customers; has a thirst for learning how Capital One works; and has experience working within tight cross-functional teams to deliver results

Youll lead a set of design teams across a portfolio of products to co-develop customer insights, product design strategy, and deliver newly designed experiencesoften all at the same time Youll report to the Head of Enterprise Design, who shares the responsibility with you of planning our strategies for talent, funding, partnering, and direction within the overall ONE Design organization and the integrated system of experiences it intends to create to improve the lives of our customers

Key responsibilities

Partner with product, tech and other senior stakeholders in the creation and scaling of Capital One platforms and products focusing on Identity Services (eg Authentication, Verification), Digital Commerce (eg virtual numbers, tokenization, the digital payments ecosystem), and Consumer Platforms and Data Ethics (eg, consumer privacy and customer data management)

Guide a diverse group of designers in defining platform design opportunities, while growing the design leaders within each design team that reports to you, enabling them to scale and create value through the products they deliver with their team and partners

Actively drive for deep understanding of the needs and goals of different consumers and lines of business, enabling creation of platforms, products and services that serve multiple internal and external customers

Lead thought leadership and innovation in ideating and concepting new designs and features that improve the customer experience and serve business needs

Influence cross divisional leaders and other design leadership in prioritization of new features and capabilities Facilitate workshops and conversations towards successful leverage of universal platform experiences and definition of localized capabilities

Leverage quantitative and qualitative research and analytics tools to measure success, present opportunities and recommendations, and support evidence based decision making

Partner with business unit leaders to understand financial, technical, and experiential objectives, and shape product and experience agendas to deliver differential results

Prioritize design efforts and design investments within the portfolio of digital products, consulting on and aligning with the needs of product and business partners

Shape the budgets, roles, hiring strategies, and talent plans for your design teams

Lead a diverse group of designers to partner in the creation and scaling of a portfolio of new Capital One products focusing on payments, identity, authentication, and more

Prioritize design efforts and design investments within the portfolio of digital products, consulting on and aligning with the needs of product partners

Partner with Design Directors across key parts of Capital One to seek out and shape integrated experience that connect more parts of our customers needs and experiences

Set and achieve objectives that connect us across domains, challenging teams to work and think differently to achieve more

Be a multiplierelevate people, reframe problems, create stories worth retelling and becoming a part of, and constantly raise the bar of quality

Basic Qualifications

At least 12 years of professional experience designing digital products

At least 8 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in design thinking and human centered design

Demonstrated experience building relationships and influencing at the executive level

At least 3 years creating design systems or working on platform design

Strong storytelling capabilities; an ability to weave key insights into a compelling narrative and rationale case
