Job Description:

Essential Job Functions

Product Safety System Engineer for Digital Electronics division of GE Transportation-Wabtec
Understand and communicate regulatory requirements and industry standards, and provide interpretations to the business
Periodically interact with US Federal Railway Administration (FRA) for domestic issues and concerns
Interact with regulatory and safety certification bodies / Independent Safety Authorities (ISAs) as needed for product accreditation for international products
Review existing and anticipated product designs for GE Transportation-Wabtec products to ensure product compliance to safety regulations
Develop project specific Safety Program Plans
Perform safety analyses such as Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis, Safety Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (SFMEA), Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), etc as needed
Provide input for development and maintenance of internal processes related to product safety

BS degree in Engineering, Science or another technical field
Minimum 5 years of experience working in a system safety engineering role
Familiarity and experience with system safety processes and standards such as MIL-STD-882C-E, ARP4761, European Common Safety Methods (CSM), Cenelec [CENELEC] norms, including EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129
Familiarity and experience with the implementation and maintenance of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) programs
Experience with software development including demonstrable experience in assessing software for safety risk analysis and designing functional safety and safety critical requirements for risk mitigation
Knowledge of locomotive applications
Experience with System Engineering methodologies
