Job Description:

This position is responsible for managing the development of suppliers for two functional areas; Corporate Supplier Management for North America and the House of Competence Castings for North America This is done through high-level process improvements and strategic planning methods surrounding supplier development and technical preparation in the planning and launch phase of new components and programs Activities are managed to support and fulfill the requirements of internal and external customers, all while ensuring local adherence to global quality objectives and corporate standards The incumbent reports functionally to the Director of Corporate Supplier Management; matrix to the VP of Materials Management North America and Director House of Competence Castings

Position Responsibilities

Manage and oversee all corporate supplier development activities to support internal and external customers; establish, meet, and track all departmental objectives
Ensures that all supplier management processes are applied in the region NA according to corporate standards
Drives supplier development activities along the whole product life cycle (preventive and reactive); special focus on casting suppliers in the House of Competence
Work with Commodity Purchasing to develop suppliers through regular assessment and plant visitations
Analyze ongoing supplier performance and efficiency through monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in conjunction with the Corporate Supplier Group
Manage the new supplier approval process in coordination with Commodity Purchasing strategy
Manage supplier risk activities in the region
Provide additional support to the Divisions if possible during crisis or escalation activities
Provide training to the region on new processes; ensure consistent and appropriate training is conducted for SQEs/SQAs in the region
Manage continuous improvement projects with named suppliers in order to show improvement in performance, reduction in scrap, improvement in yield, and improvement in throughput
Develop, implement and manage budget for department; take appropriate actions to support facility budget
Manage department performance by reviewing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and developing other metrics where applicable; measure ongoing performance
Assign, check work, track progress, enforce company policy, review performance, initiate Changes-In-Status, train and motivate employees, champion individual and team efforts, and aid in the development of professionals to achieve individual leadership and company goals and objectives
Monitor status of local, regional, and global projects through steering committee and project meetings; resolve issues as needed
Maintain a safe, productive work environment for the employees satisfying ZF quality standards and policy
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies
Ensure departmental compliance with all TS 16949 and ISO 14001 policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Experience

BS in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field
8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically in the automotive industry
5 years of project management and/or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
Deep knowledge in quality and/or purchasing processes within supplier development projects, including working knowledge of process/production control methods (ie APQP, PPAP, incoming inspection, etc)
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Outlook
Proven ability to work independently and lead engineering staff and other professionals with decisiveness and diplomacy
Proven knowledge and ability in methods of communication, motivation, negotiation, and conflict management skills with a high level of initiative/drive
Familiarity with financial reporting statements
Ability to lead and implement lean activities
Solid working knowledge of TS 16949 and ISO 14001 standards and core tools
English language competency
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

Preferred Skills and experience

Masters Degree in Engineering or Engineering Management
Knowledge of 5S and Six Sigma problem-solving methodology
5 years of experience with powertrain technology
Experience in assembly/manufacturing environment, including but not limited to, plant layout, cost analysis, budgeting, APQP, FMEA, SPC, and experience with a quality system(s) - ISO, QS, TS, etc)
Familiarity with plant operations, including machining, assembly and heat treatment
Proven Program Management experience
Working knowledge of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing concepts
Additional education and/or formal training in project management and finance
Spanish and/or German Language Skills
