Short Description

Principal Engineer R&D working on EV / HEV controllers, is expected to manage development of EV powertrain controllers such as motor controllers, DC-DC converters, Battery management systems The candidate will be required to manage product development exercise through active hands-on hardware/software development, customer interaction, project management & coordination of development activity through interactions with a cross functional team

The candidate will be primarily responsible for managing power-electronic controller development for EV / Hybrid / ISG powertrains With SEDEMAC entering the EV juggernaut, we are looking for people with skills, passion & absolute enthusiasm for developing high power / high voltage power electronics controllers to shape the upcoming EV / HEV industry In relation to this, the candidate will be required to

Develop first principle understanding of EV / HEV powertrains at a systems level This understanding aids in answer questions such as what is the maximum possible range benefit because of regenerative-braking for a given system configuration, or what is the best-suited electric machine, given a certain vehicle & drive cycle configuration
Lead an iterative specification gathering & drafting exercise through interactions with internal teams / customers / vendors and define system level & functional level specifications for internal products at a white-box level
Coordinate with cross functional teams (electronics, software, mechanical) & ensure timely development of products through formal project management This involves mitigating all risks involved in the controller development and managing development through all design stages till hand-over to customer, while being in sync with customer & internal teams
Lead DFMEA activity at systems level & functional level
Lead safety compliance of controllers being built, against standards such as ISO-26262 This involves building a thorough understanding of safety standards, interfacing with SEDEMACs customers to understand their safety goals, and to incorporate design & process elements in SEDEMACs controller development workflow to ensure compatibility with safety standards
Develop test plans & validation plans at system level & functional level Ensure rigs & fixtures for such test plans are built, through coordination with SEDEMACs internal test automation engineers, prototyping engineers & technicians Ensure execution of such test plans (manual / automatic) through coordination with validation engineers
Lead failure analysis of controller failures during customer engagements & post product release
Act as a single point of contact for customers for all technical matters related to customer engagement This involves specification synchronization, periodic customer meetings for updating project status, de-risking as and when required, & post release support such as accommodating feature requests, calibration support, failure analysis support & all related technical communications
Possibly lead a team of engineers working on EV powertrain through technical mentorship, course-correction &training
Identify & bring about positive change in SEDEMACs engineering processes & tools, towards improving engineering effectiveness

Desired technical skills

Domain expertise in EV / HEV powertrain with hands on experience in developing electronic controllers and putting them into reasonably large sized production (and handling associated field failures)
Strong command over engineering physics and mathematics along with enthusiasm for potentially cross-domain ideas (mechanical, electrical etc)
Strong skills in electronic instrumentation
Familiarity with PCB CAD tools, thermal simulation tools, circuit simulation tools
Good skills in electronic instrumentation
Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB / Python for data analysis
Experience with new product development
Formal experience with project management

Desired soft skills

Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work with a cross-functional team

Sense of ownership and urgency when working in the company
Strong sense of ethics
