POWER PLANT LEAD ( KBO000427 )

Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Supervises technicians as they perform high-voltage (415 volt to 11 kV) electrical work involving the installation, operation, maintenance, repair and testing of high voltage electrical power generation and distribution systems to include facilities and related systems, transformers, generators, switchgears, metering and control systems, equipment, machinery and power appliances to within acceptable national (NEC) and local (MEW) codes, safety rules and electrical standards Ensures personnel exhibit superior workmanship and focus on a quality end product Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure all tasks are accomplished safely and with a focus on a quality product Verifies actual hours worked by personnel against work performed to reduce manpower expenditure Ensures personnel complete all tasks in accordance with the local Environmental, Safety and Health directives Provides leadership and mentors junior personnel to develop appropriate skillsets Addresses customer concerns in a prompt, professional and courteous manner Uses provided Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to correctly input data related to maintenance work orders, preventative maintenance inspections, and emergency/urgent customer requests Ensures personnel correctly capture data on maintenance work order requests and preventative maintenance inspection forms for upload into Maximo

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES

1 Accountable for, and ensures a safe and effective operation of the power plant facility

2 Establishes a proactive maintenance program per manufacturers recommendations, NEC and Technical Exhibit specifications in order to eliminate unscheduled outages

3 Uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) database to track work orders, request material and update work order statuses as needed

4 Analyzes equipment data and trends; along with team members input, formulates maintenance program procedures

5 Leads job and safety analysis meetings with team members discussing potential hazards and near-miss incidents

6 Coordinates the installation, maintenance and repair of all electrical, generator, transformer, switchgear, power grid, substation and load center equipment

7 Prepares estimates of time, labor and material requirements for various projects

8 Develops plans, prepares and execute schedules for preventative maintenance and routine testing of high-voltage distribution system components

9 Serves as the subject matter expert, works with technicians as they test circuits, power grids, transformers, switchgear and controls demonstrating the proper use of meters, high-voltage testers, meggers and similar testing equipment to measure the integrity of electrical components and detect faults, hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation and or replacement

10 Implements and monitors lock-out and tag-out procedures

11 Performs other duties as assigned

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

1 A basic set of hand and power tools used on the job

2 Test sets and other generator/power plant maintenance related tools/equipment

3Breakers, transformers, RTS or protest relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, automatic transfer switching, performing start-up on switchgear up through 500kV class, VFD (variable frequency drives)

4Repair parts used on various types and sizes of generators

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Duties will involve the conduct of work in the outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions including frequent dust storms, and high temperatures up to 130F degrees in the summer months Potential exposure to chemical or biological agents could exist Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in certain areas is required PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices Normal work week is 48 hours, but must be able to work overtime or shift work as required

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certifications One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required

Certified & licensed in the field of electro-mechanical, power plant, industrial or electrical required Technical school, military training preferred

Must possess a valid US drivers license for the purpose of obtaining a Kuwait drivers license

Must be able to obtain Common Access Card (CAC)

Experience

1 Minimum six (6) years experience in power generation, distribution, transmission and substation operations and maintenance required

2 NICET III certification in electrical power testing or equivalent military training

Skills

1 Comprehensive knowledge and skills in the theory, principles, methods and techniques used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of high voltage electrical systems and equipment

2 Knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI and the NEC

3 Skilled in power plant, substation, and utility voltages (480 volt, 2400 volt, 4160 volt through 138 kv)

4 Possess proficient English oral and written communications skills

5 Collaborative work style, fostering cooperation, and teamwork

6 Exercise discretion and good sound judgment

7 Basic computer skills

SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

Will have direct oversight of power plant and generator maintenance personnel
