The Opportunity The Managing Director position provides management and leadership to all aspects of the South African operation of Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation This includes oversight, development and execution of the business and strategic plans, management of the staff and the operating system, responsibility for compliance (including the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment initiative) and the marketing of financial products and solutions to the Caterpillar dealer and customers in South Africa This role will be based in South Africa and provide executive leadership in the business operations across numerous countries (Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe) This role will be accountable for providing leadership, direction and management to the local organization It will also work closely with manager and the corporate staff to design long-term strategies for the effective support of the local dealer organization and the growth of Caterpillars business

Core Responsibilities Assists in developing annual business plans and budgets, allocates appropriate resources, leads local staff to ensure the achievement of the business plans, monitors and reports performance against plan

Manages the sales and marketing staff members, which includes providing leadership in developing and executing marketing plans, closely monitoring and analyzing the competitive landscape, and working closely with dealers and TMs to increase market penetration
Manages the operation of the organization, which includes ensuring the selection and proper functioning of the operating system, as well as the direct the credit approval, the collection process and the customer service functions of the local organization
Authorizes all purchase orders to the dealer; signs all finance/lease contracts
Develops and nurtures positive relationships with dealer personnel and end users
Assists with the development and implementation of leasing/finance plans that are market driven and provides opportunity to meet or exceed forecasted growth with acceptable risk
Assures a reasonable return of profit with control of credit and collection activities
Creates an environment for employees to develop and optimize their performance potential
Provides direction to local staff on lease and finance transactions
Travels to dealer branches and customer locations to promote CFSC products and services
Works closely with corporate treasury to obtain competitive US dollar cost funds and works closely with local accountant to obtain competitive funding from local banks
Allocates and manages resources in a cost-effective manner manage budgets
Manages HR issues determines staffing needs, interviews and selects employees, carries out supervisory responsibilities toward the staff of the operation, such as administers salaries, conducts performance reviews, plans for training and development
Manages legal issues, manages the local facilities, and protects company assets
Coordinates with IS for computer services to meet local needs
Participates in accomplishment of continuous improvement objectives for the department Progress toward accomplishment of these is measured through maintenance of necessary measurements and analysis of associated data Participates in the identification of problem areas and the development of resolutions to address them

Basic Qualifications

A 4-year college or university degree in any of the business disciplines
15 or more post-graduate hours in accounting, business administration (MBA), law or international relations; or a second language will be considered in lieu of 2 years international experience Equivalent Experience may be substituted for education
A minimum of 10 years experience in, and a thorough knowledge of commercial lending, marketing, credit and customer services at the retail and/or wholesale financing levels, of which 2 years must be international experience or other related fields is recommended
Related fields include, insurance companies, government service (ie Department of State/Commerce or ECA), or other commercial experience related to international (trade) or maritime business

Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply problem solving and decision-making techniques
Strong leadership and managerial skills
Thorough knowledge of and ability to develop and motivate employees to achieve objectives
Advanced knowledge of and the ability to apply effective oral and written communication skills
Thorough knowledge of and the advanced ability to analyze the financial status of customers
Thorough knowledge of and the ability to operate computers, and financial calculator
Thorough knowledge of and the advanced ability of financial mathematics for modeling, forecasting and to provide direction on lease/finance transactions
Advanced knowledge of financial products (banking, leasing and finance) and their policies and procedures
Thorough knowledge or and the advanced ability to apply marketing techniques
Advanced ability to apply Human resources procedures
Thorough knowledge of and the ability to apply CFSC culture, structure, products, procedures, mission and shared values
Thorough knowledge of Dealer organization structure, culture, markets and products
Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to utilize and understand languages of countries served
