Job Description:

The Chemistry Data Management Lead plays a key role in enabling Pfizer scientists to maximize the value of chemistry data through a portfolio of solutions and services This is achieved through the creation and execution of strategies and approaches that aim to ensure maximal quality and integrity of these data, and enable its facile access, aggregation and mining

Services provided include internal data registration and curation support, and the integration of data from external sources such as collaborations, partnerships and corporate acquisitions

The successful candidate will combine strong customer focus with an in-depth understanding of internal chemistry systems, data and associated technologies


This role is responsible for leading global chemistry data activities for Research In this capacity, and in close collaboration with scientists, partners and team members, the Chemistry Data Management lead will

Develop strategic direction for the discipline
Elicit, analyze and document chemistry data workflow requirements
Lead multi-disciplinary teams in the execution of projects that will deliver on the above-mentioned strategic direction and requirements
Collaborate with other team members in the delivery of timely, high-quality chemistry curation services
Lead chemistry data integration efforts stemming from external collaboration agreements, liasing with appropriate scientific, business development, legal and technology colleagues as needed
Assist in the timely investigation and resolution of data problems, and the definition of support and maintenance procedures and approaches
Develop data manipulation and processing scripts that can enable internal / external workflows or otherwise facilitate data integration and/or curation


Required experience / education

Degree or equivalent experience in a chemistry-related discipline (post-graduate degree strongly preferred)
Degree or equivalent experince in chemistry-focused informatics
Demonstrated experience in project leadership

Desired Experience

5 years of experience in similar roles in science or technology-focused organizations
Experience in a chemistry laboratory environment using (and preferably managing and supporting) scientific applications for chemistry in a research environment
Experience with data manipulation, analysis, mining and visualization technologies (eg Pipeline Pilot, D360/Vortex), and scripting languages (eg Python / Perl) Programming experience a plus
Experience with relational databases (eg Oracle) and the SQL query language Experience with Cloud technologies a plus
Familiarity with chemical representation standards and tools (eg BioviaDraw, ChemDraw, Marvin)
Strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills
Strong communication and customer relationship building abilities
