Jacobs is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer with in-depth experience in system automation who will support several projects for IC and DOD customers This position will be located in our Broken Land Parkway, Columbia, MD office

**This position is eligible for a $2,500 sign on bonus**

Duties and responsibilities will include
Solve data flow problems and performing end-to-end system integration tasks to include system design, development, and administration
Developing system performance, availability, scalability, manageability, and security requirements for small-to-mid scale programs
Performing a variety of tasks related to knowledge/technique dissemination to analytic workforce; demonstrating an ability to convey new techniques and technologies to analytic workforce and facilitate transference of acquired knowledge from experienced analysts to new analysts
Providing technical assessment of requirements and definition from conception through implementation
Contribute to the development of documentation, including system diagrams, standards, specifications and operating procedures
Monitor for opportunities to enhance the customer network/system performance or reliability as well as the customer service delivery practices
Provide guidance to team members and provide status metrics to Project Managers
Maintain and extend expertise in applicable areas of network and computer hardware and software technology
Development of high-level and low-level design documents
Provide support and troubleshooting of network problems Periodically provide after-hours and weekend support



Basic Qualifications
DoD Secret level security clearance is required with the ability to obtain higher level clearances up to TS/SCI with a polygraph
Typically has a BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and five (5) years to eight (8) years of progressive, relevant experience, or an MS degree in a computer or system science and four (4) to six (6) years of progressive experience, or PhD degree in a computer of system science discipline and zero (0) to three (3) years of related experience
5 years of hands-on Linux System Administration
Hands-on experience configuring and integrating system applications to include opensource solutions
Experience with Linux on a virtualized platform (VMWare or Microsoft HyperV)
Ability to travel Team members typically travel less than 5 PERCENT per year

Desired Qualifications
2 years of experience working with cloud-based infrastructure in AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, SNS, etc)
Understanding of system automation tools such as SaltStack, Chef, Ansible
Experience with the following application sets Splunk, Iptables, Nagios, OpenVPN, StrongSwan, Snort, Hadoop, ELK stack, MySQL, Apache, Asterisk
Experience with some scripting and automation, preferably Python and Saltstack or Ansible
Hands-on experience in AWS, supporting a Production system, or a successful migration AWS certification(s)
IAT Level II certification (Security , CCNA Security, etc)
Familiarity with basic networking concepts
Ability to support a variety of technologies and frameworks, including but not limited to AWS, IBM Softlayer and Twilio
Familiarity with opensource projects such as StrongSwan and OpenVPN
Possession of strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills with a keen attention to detail
Possession of strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical topics to management and non-technical audiences, as well as interface with the customer on a daily basis

General Office environment The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers

General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment

Attendance is critical at all times Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur
