JSEG Systems Engineer (Mid Level) - ( AER00038J )


Candidate would provide support as an IMAGERY SYSTEMS ENGINEER specifically to the Space Launch System Imagery Team within the Space Systems Department at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Candidate would serve a coordinating role with multiple discipline engineers Prime focus would be in the areas of SLS imagery needs, including onboard and ground systems

Duties may include, but not be limited to, the following

Assisting or leading system-engineering efforts, specifically in the areas of requirements/verification with SLS Program Imagery System Requirements, including maintaining specifications and generating verification reports
Making technical risk mitigation/management inputs
Writing and reviewing test plans and test procedures and test reports
Attending, providing input to, conducting, and/or presenting at technical reviews, working groups and board meetings
Ensuring proper maintenance of documentation to include interfacing with Quality personnel to ensure records are maintained
Providing CM support for project documentation including maintaining project documentation
Providing periodic status inputs to project and Space Systems Department management
Assisting or leading system-engineering efforts related to software documentation and verification

At least a BS degree from an ABET accredited institution in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of related experience is desired

Experience to include, but not be limited to, working with project/vehicle/subsystem integration, systems engineering, requirements definition, verification experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Position may include limited travel

Required Skills for this position may include but not be limited to

Excellent communication skills, technical writing, and presentation skills
Experience in the coordination and integration of various disciplines/areas including mechanical, ground support systems, imagery, and quality
The ability to be flexible in easily transitioning between work assignments
Knowledge of technical risk mitigation planning
Strong customer relations skills
The ability to be proactive between formal assignments, and complete tasks with minimal direction
Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro

Desired Skills for this position include

Proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint
Strong skills and experience in systems engineering specifically related to the design, development, documentation and performance testing of flight subsystems
Experience with NASA flight hardware
An understanding of imagery systems and/or imagery analysis
Understanding/experience of contracting between NASA/MSFC and a prime contractor
Understanding of MSFCs processes and working within the NASA environment

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office environment Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100 PERCENT ) Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100 PERCENT ) Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15 PERCENT )

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10 PERCENT ) Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80 PERCENT ) Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10 PERCENT )

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100 PERCENT )


Normal workday is from 730 am through 430 pm, Monday thru Friday Minimal overtime may be required (10 PERCENT ) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100 PERCENT ) Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others

Proof of US Citizenship is required
