JSEG Electronics Engineer (Mid Level) - ( AER0002AV )


Jacobs is seeking an Electronics Engineer to join the Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) at NASAs Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL

The successful candidate will

Design and fabricate both digital and analog electronics for space flight and ground support This may include discrete and monolithic switching power supplies, amplifiers, filters, sensor interfaces, microprocessors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, buffers, and memories

Participate in qualification and testing of electrical components and systems destined for use on the International Space Station

Support hardware designed for use on the International Space Station in the areas of; Schedule, Requirements, Peer reviews,Verification & Validation, Test Procedure Creation, Assisting in the organizational (NASA) release process

Participate in research, working group meetings, design reviews, and Engineering Review Boards when needed

Other desired skill would include
Design skills with software drivers and embedded software development to operate an avionics system
Design skills in digital, analog, controller and power electronic design
PCB layout experience General layout assistance, how to lay out boards for a conductively cooled environment, how to evaluate signal integrity, techniques to control electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC), etc
Electronic Box design expertise with conductively cooled electronics, control of electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC), vented or not vented, etc
Skills in building, designing, testing, and operating space-qualified electronics
Skills in the selection, analysis, and operation of microcontrollers and central processing units (CPUs)

Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required Degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a PhD with a minimum 4 years of experience; Masters with at least 8 years of experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience

Required Skills

Possess expertise in development of electronics, and electrical systems in harsh environments such as vacuum, and hard radiation
Have the ability to support development and testing of electronics and hardware
Provide critical thinking, effective communications, and problem solving skills
Possess excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation, and presentation skills required
Have a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite competence (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office environment Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100 PERCENT ) Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100 PERCENT ) Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15 PERCENT )

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10 PERCENT ) Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80 PERCENT ) Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10 PERCENT )

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100 PERCENT )


Normal workday is from 730 am through 430 pm, Monday thru Friday Minimal overtime may be required (10 PERCENT ) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100 PERCENT ) Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
