This role provides the local face of HR for employees and supports them throughout the employee lifecycle
Medium-term business strategy and objectives typically guide this role, although there will be involvement in the formulation and development of future policy in line with local legislation

What youll be doing

Accountable for understanding US and Canada employment law and ensuring that BTs performance and development plan policies are compliant, clear and posted

Responsible for maintaining customer service to BTs employees and managers for employee relations and performance management queries Works with managers and employees to ensure working expectations, goals and performance expectations are compliant, documented and consistente

Ensures employee performance improvement documents and cases are recorded, updated and agreed between the employee and the manager Reviews with the regional or global HR business teams, as appropriate and for groups that they support

Drives and owns the end-to-end delivery of the US and Canada employee relations space Escalate appropriately to drive forward progress and on-time resolution

Provides management and leadership reporting to ensure awareness, visibility and issues and trends are understood Highlights areas of policy improvements, potential changes or business unit trends

Leads recurring meetings and review sessions with HR Services management, HR Business partners and delivery professionals to review active, closed and potential employee cases Assist and document agreed actions and resolutions

Ensure all processes in your area of accountability are mapped and current and are designed in accordance with appropriate legislative requirements, which enhance and protect BT now and the future

Hold meetings with key business stakeholders to identify HR process issues for colleagues Develop work streams to address and improve

Engage and review with internal and external legal counsel, as required, appropriate and agreed

Coordinates the US and Canada employment policy reviews, employment polices refresh and ensures timely posting to internal sites

Identify and work with similar roles and teams across the HR and business services teams Align, where possible

Strong understanding of human resources Additional experience in US performance or employee relations, preferred

Previous experience and understanding of Canada employment law, a plus

Experience working in Fusion and ADP portals

Knowledge and experience working with internal and external legal counsel and local and global HR teams

Able to work independently within a structured environment (DOA and controls)

Excellent documentation ability and skills Must be able to meet insurance and legal requirements for case documentation Audit

Excellent written and verbal communication to all levels of the organization Be able to communicate plans and results to team members and executives

Able to effectively portray and explain risk, controls and process to employees, managers and leadership

Proficiency in Microsoft programs

Education, certification or previous training in HR, employee performance and employment law beneficial required Courses completed within past 2-3 years, a plus

Degree not required for role

4 years minimum experience working in HR for a company with multi-state employees HR generalist or HR specialist Leaves, absence or similar, a plus 2 years minimum in an HR specialist role Performance, Employee Relations or similar roles
