HiL Test Design Engineer - ( AER0002OO )

The Hardware in the Loop (HiL) Test Design Engineer supports the product development and system integration processes by developing test procedures for automated execution, implementing tests using Hardware in the Loop equipment, documenting and reviewing execution reports, reporting incidents, and tracking software updates to fix issues

The HiL Test Design Engineer develops expertise in software test design and has advanced knowledge in vehicle functional partitioning, electrical and communication architectures, Fords embedded software processes, and the Global Product Development System

This role requires close collaboration with feature owners, engineering, and suppliers to develop a strong understanding of the vehicle functions and implement appropriate test design strategies for early identification of defects and to provide evidence of defect elimination

Main Responsibilities

Single point of contact for the test organization and the feature owner, engineering team, and supplier

Manage the test project for the assigned features including integration/definition, scope/coverage, time, communications, and risk

Develop and negotiate the testing scope and statement of work

Support the tradeoff analysis of test requirements vs test environment capabilities to define test scope and instrumentation strategies

Analyze requirements, vehicle components electrical schematics, functional specifications, and FMEA documentation

Design, maintain and execute test procedures in alignment with test design guidelines and strategy

Document test environment, automation, and vehicle variant management requirements

Implement and validate test environment, automation, and vehicle variant management solutions

Develop test procedures to validate the test environment (intake tests)

Analyze test execution results to generate reports, document incidents, and drive them to resolution

Troubleshoot vehicle systems and test environment functionality to minimize false positive incident reports

Implement continuous improvement strategies for test design, management, and execution processes

Dynamic The role supports different vehicle features with varying levels of complexity and require diverse technologies for automation which need to be learnt, deployed, and maintained

Hands on Work is performed in the lab with direct access to vehicle hardware and simulation equipment Working in new technology pilots is done in parallel with day to day operations

Constant location The role is performed in the lab and does not require constant travel to support testing at production sites

Agile, learning and collaborative team The team members have diverse backgrounds and experience that are shared through collaboration in multidisciplinary projects, technical design reviews, incident reviews, and day to day operations

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

A Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical or Computer) and one (1) year of engineering experience OR, MS degree from an accredited engineering school

Verifiable formal software quality assurance training

Experience in software development with compiled and interpreted languages including C , Python, visual basic and Matlab and their corresponding integrated development environments (IDEs) Eg MS Visual Studio, Simulink

2 years of experience utilizing software testing or quality assurance methodologies

2 years of experience in development and execution of functional test procedures within a software or vehicle testing organization

1 years of experience in electrical schematics for vehicle components and systems and electrical architectures of distributed systems

1 years of experience in embedded controller networks (CAN, LIN) and the use of ECU diagnostic and network communication tools to verify and troubleshoot distributed vehicle systems (eg CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy)

1 years of experience in bench testing of distributed electrical systems (Electrical System Engineering) including bench functional integration, test execution, measuring and instrumentation, incident reporting and root cause analysis

1 years of experience in electrical and functional specifications of embedded controllers, wiring, switches, sensors and actuators

Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Project, PowerPoint (SharePoint preferred)

Preferred

Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

Software quality assurance certification applicable to embedded software (ISO 26262 - Functional Safety, Automotive SPICE, ISTQB, ASQ, TMMi, etc)

Experience with development and verification of embedded software using hardware in the loop equipment and software (Eg dSpace, National Instruments)

Experience with dSpace Control Desk and Automation Desk

Effective communication Clear and concise spoken and written communication skills are critical for this position since the engineer is responsible for gathering engineering requirements, negotiating during tradeoff analysis and documenting testing solutions

Project management skills, well organized, and able to manage multiple tasks The engineer needs to work on multiple interrelated projects but with different and sometimes conflicting requirements

Interpersonal skills (Networking, negotiation, and tolerance) Required to work with cross functional, multiregional, internal and external teams that can have different priorities

Ability to manage urgent situations and manage priorities

Tolerance to ambiguity and dealing with complex engineering problems

Ability to make decisions with minimal supervision and limited information

In depth knowledge of new electrical and electronic features

Automotive simulation (electric components, controller behavior, vehicle dynamics, vehicle environment)

Software test design techniques

Test automation strategies (hardware/instrumentation and software related solutions) Eg Machine vision, collaborative robots
