POSITION SUMMARY

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Inspector is responsible for performing acceptance, initial, random and final inspection on equipment submitted for service and or repair, and shall determine that all repairs do not exceed maintenance expenditure limit (MEL) The inspector will also determine when items are brought in for repair is not damage due to other than fear ware tear (OTFWT) The inspector is required to perform Estimate Cost of Repair (ECOD) and Classification inspections The vast majority of work assigned will be conducted on Fort Bragg or the immediate area, but can also include work at off-post locations for a limited time in support of unit training or operations, and the associated logistics functions in support of the Fort Bragg installation, 406th Army Field Support Battalion (AFSBn) and Materiel Maintenance Division (MMD) mission

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES

Types of equipment inspected includes Construction, Special purpose, Lawn equipment, tractors, commercial vehicles, fuel and water tanks and accessory equipment attachments

Performs acceptance, initial, in-progress, critical task and final inspection on all types of equipment

Operates and inspects machines and or equipment

Uses technical manuals, bulletins and written directives in the performance of all inspections and repairs

Diagnose vehicle problems to include engine, transmissions and drive train to

Identifys and orders the required repairs parts using the appropriate parts manuals Test equipment to ensure operating efficiency

Conducts required repairs to various types of equipment

Perform ECODs, ECORs and ACODs inspections and verifies condition codes

Performs classification on all types of equipment IAW the appropriate documentation

Perform load testing on equipment as required

May be required to do on-site visits to validate repairs at local vendor

Practice good housekeeping, property accountability control and safety at all times

Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives

Job duties and responsibilities may change due to contractual requirements

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

Extensive use of a desktop computer, multiline telephone and multi-functional device Steel Toe shoes may be required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas Such PPE includes, but is not limited to head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices Computer, multiline telephone, Multi-Function Divide (MFD)

Diagnostic equipment and hand tools as they apply to the inspection process

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is generally conducted in a shop environment However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week) Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Must be able to lift occasional basics at least 50 pounds Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent

Five (5) years of job-related experience, preferred

Must be proficient in servicing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment

Must possess good computer, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills

Must be able to prioritize, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and interact at all levels

Must possess the ability to work well under pressure and with tight deadlines

Must have a working knowledge and operational experience with Logistic Information System, such as Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-Army)

The work requires a general knowledge of shop operations, production control procedures, and established supply and requisition procedures

Must successfully pass a NACI background investigation

Must have a valid drivers license with no restrictions, Commercial Drivers License preferred

Able to react to change productively and handle essential tasks as assigned

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years of related job experience, preferred Ability to inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling systems components on various construction, special purpose, commercial and lawn equipment Customer service experience is required Experience operating constructrion type equipment like bulldozers, road graders and forkliftsa is preferred

SKILLS

Must have the ability to analyze and interpret US Army Technical Manuals with relation to vehicle maintenance and repair Must have the ability to verify serviceability of equipment, determine the economic reparability of the item and determine the extent of maintenance effort and repair parts required to restore the item to the prescribed serviceable condition Possess knowledge of safety and environmental issues as they related to vehicle maintenance
