Why this role matters

The role holder will provide specialist employee relations human resource project delivery to members of the Companys senior employee relations team and is an integral part of the Employee Relations team The role is focused on the specialism of Employee Relations, taking full responsibility for results set at the Director level and delivering the overall Employee Relations strategic objectives

The role holder is responsible for delivering Employee Relation project and strategic objectives and working with key stakeholders across the business They will also have responsibility for the implementation, development and review of ER working strategies to meet business objectives in line with legal requirements, business strategies, company values, policies and procedures, HR best practice and external legislative requirements, Reporting into the Head of ER for Openreach The individual will also undertake projects relating to the formulation, implementation, development, review and determination of future company-wide ER related policies

What youll be doing

To support the alignment of the ER strategy across the business and ensure implementation across the business; understanding the global ER agenda as well as the UK

To implement robust project plans and business planning processes to deliver the ER agenda

Manage the ER agenda on particular projects eg Union Facility Time

Be involved in negotiations with the trade unions and ensures resolution of complex issues that are of risk to the business

Work with Senior ER leads to shape business planning and ensure delivery against this eg resourcing

Ensure appropriate governance for the ER team and compliance across the group eg reporting, weekly updates etc

Provides specialist input to the development of people policies and practices To support strategic and business targets to ER related issues, demands, processes, products, services, outcomes and consequences, and to develop policies for Employee Relations, people strategies, mediation, grievances, industrial tribunals and related issues

To proactively partner with senior management and other colleagues within the business to achieve BTs targets

To initiate and facilitate the development of processes/products/services to support business strategies

To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of people management and ER practices/processes for the business

To initiate, lead, plan and manage change from a BT wide perspective

Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships to shape and deliver key projects as part of the ER strategic agenda

Additional responsibilities

Support the Head of ER in delivering the ER agenda

To effectively drive and provide expert professional expert management and consultancy services in relation to High Level Review applications

Driving the effective and professional management of discipline and grievance cases

Promoting the BT Brand through external recognition of best HR / ER practice

Monitor on going discipline and grievance cases against legislation driving Case, HR and the line to progress cases to resolution

Drive industry best practice within Openreach in relation to appropriate intervention and resolution of grievance cases

Provide ER advice to Openreach HR community

Driving compliance, learning and knowledge in relation to employment law

Business Impact

Impact is medium term and there is some involvement in longer term strategic planning

Develops commercially sound solutions that influence business unit results and improve customer relationships

In depth knowledge/awareness of functions outside of own business area

Develops plans for projects over the medium term

Involved in the development of future ER/HR Policies

Authority / Decision making

Involved with assisting in developing internal and external changes into strategies and deliverable programmes, operations or activities

Will devise, review, and select sustainable solutions to business impacting problems

Effective management of resources and development/implementation of plans and processes

Interprets policies, establishes procedures and formulates operational guidelines to the benefit of the business

Demonstrates clear strategic thinking that delivers

Typically graduate level or corresponding experience, MCIPD or relevant experience/professional qualification

Fully accredited work place mediator by exam or results-based experience

Recognised expert in areas relating to employment legislation, Legal implications, and agreements with trade unions, employee policy and AHRS processes

Significant knowledge and experience in HR issues covering a breadth of activities and best in class HR practices and policies

Effective participation as part of a virtual team essential

Strategic Openreach/Group-wide awareness and critical reasoning are key to this role

A detailed understanding of the operational environment and the interrelationship between this Employee relations and business direction
