R&D Director - Sustaining Engineering

About the role

The R&D Director will have executive responsibilities for performance and continuous improvement of our UroPH portfolio of commercial products Primary responsibilities include the identification, development, and implementation of product performance improvements, strategic initiatives, franchise structure, management development

Your responsibilities will include

Identifies new strategies and projects for the investigation, design, and implementation of new or improved products and/or applications
Creates and champions continuous improvement efforts
Identifies future technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth and drives implementation Active participant in the due diligence process
Leads technology advancements for the department
Develops and ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements
Have extensive internal contacts across BSC and external contacts with physicians and/or industry specialists
Collaboratively determines short- and long-term product strategies and technologies
Ensures implementation of functional excellence initiatives
Encourages problem-solving processes leading to solutions that can be leveraged across divisions
Ensure sharing of initiatives/ideas and accomplishments across the divisions
Responsible for succession planning and the development and implementation of retention strategies
Proactively reviews future technologies and plans needed resources with appropriate technical skills either through external search or training to prepare

What were looking for in you

Basic Qualifications

BS degree in Engineering or applicable field required
Must have strong leadership skills; must have demonstrated experience leading through change
Must have experience driving product quality/product performance improvements
Must have experience driving scrap reduction and waste elimination
Working knowledge of KDPD principles
Must have at least 12 years technical professional experience
Must have at least 8 years experience directly managing people
Strong mechanical/electrical/biomedical or systems engineering expertise
Have proven experience supporting products ideally including front end innovation to include full lifecycle (from exploration to launching commercial products to sustaining and end of life)
Portfolio management and process experience required
Must have experience working in Global Engineering organizations working with a collection of global technology and product development partners

Preferred Qualifications

Medical Device experience
Masters Degree
