Database Administrator

Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic database management team The candidate with 3 5 years experience providing full life-cycle database support in a high performance, highly available database environment Candidate must be able to demonstrate understanding and management of large scale databases, working with both IT and Business resources, troubleshooting and issue resolution skills, as well as possess good written and verbal communications skills

Responsibilities

Work with applications teams to understand and satisfy complex database requirements
Install, configure, and manage databases across diverse architectures including Windows, Linux, and DBaaS environments for on-premise and cloud-based deployments
Demonstrate proficiency in managing and migrating data between disparate platforms and databases
Strong background with database patching and upgrades
Provide database and query performance tuning
Ensure database compliance with various audit standards, including SOX, PCI, and FDA
Ensure adherence to strict change control policies
Provide database user and security management
Perform database backup, recovery
Perform automation of routine database tasks
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a dynamic environment

Qualifications

Minimum 3 - 5 years DBA experience, including experience with Cloud-based database platforms
Oracle database experience preferred
Installation, configuration, and management experience databases
Troubleshooting and issue resolution skills
Provide 24x7 Support for Microsoft SQL Server Databases
Work with Application Developers to troubleshoot poor performing queries and processes
Coordinate and execute code releases in QA and PROD environments
Ensure the appropriate change control process is being followed for all database changes
Work on and resolve incidents and request for various Microsoft SQL Server databases
Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
Some experience supporting large, critical applications is preferred
Some experience with deployment and support of databases in a cloud environment preferred (AWS, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Redshift, DynamoDB, Postgres, Java, SQL, Python, Unix, Linux, Hana preferred)

Education
BS Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
