We are looking for a highly motivated individual interested in beginning or progressing their career in the areas of program management, project management, service deployment, or customer service Needs to be a team player, organized, self-motivated, and capable of operating in a fast moving, aggressive environment The candidate should have strong communication skills, both in written and formal presentations and be able to manage many aspects of the account simultaneously Effective group interpersonal skills and effective project and cost management skills in keeping projects on schedule and budget and assuring all relevant parties are informed on progress or issues are needed

Preferred location Seattle, WA area, but can be remote anywhere in North America


Program coordination and relationship building with major telecommunications customers in complex, mission critical operations involving high-speed data communications product deployment and service management Works directly with customers facilitating communication and translating operational requirements for the complete life cycle of the operation from pre-contract to ongoing network support into structured executable tasks, milestones, deliverables, and processes Facilitates communications between customer operational groups and Ciena to meet customers needs Builds and maintains long-term strategic relationships Supports new business activities and proposal efforts Acts as a mentor to support organizations and provides direction and guidance on an as needed basis Regionally located with occasional travel to corporate and customer sites either domestically or internationally required

Customer Satisfaction

Identify, scope, access, and manage all risks associated with service contracts and/or service issues
Manage customer relationships at the appropriate operational/procurement level to ensure the customers and Cienas objectives are met
Ensure effective communications within Ciena and between Ciena and customer to resolve all issues
Coordinate all parties in resolving issues and escalations effectively identifying issue severity and involving appropriate resources at all levels within Ciena and customers organizations in order to achieve resolution to both companies satisfaction
Ensure that Ciena and the customer work together as an effective team in driving delivery excellence Develop effective relationships with key members of the customers team to ensure that objectives are aligned and jointly driven

Driving Revenue

Track, manage, and report on revenue, costs, and margins
Work with account teams to ensure contract renewals
Proactively identify and drive opportunities for service sales and improvement
Work with account teams to identify new service business opportunities and deliver quotes to the customer

Program / Project Management

Document and communicate customer needs, project status, situations, and resolutions
Conduct formal initiation of new programs and projects to ensure all relevant stakeholders within Ciena and the customer understand and take ownership for the deliverables required by the agreed commercial terms
Develop and orchestrate carefully designed action plans to successfully complete projects
Work with functional groups and Services Project Managers (SPMs) to develop field work packages for new network builds or upgrades
Facilitate frequent meetings and conference calls between relevant customer operational groups and corporate groups
Coordinate and track field activity through the implementation of the work package (Field deployment may utilize direct or subcontract labor)
Act as a clearinghouse for all aspects of customer requirements and operational contacts
Assures all parties are in close communication regarding project status and milestones
Responds to emergencies via telephone or in person and gets proper resources assigned to problems
Close projects to satisfactorily meet customer deliverables and Ciena fiscal requirements
Actively track program/project revenue streams and contribute to the ongoing development of new revenue opportunities, both product and services
Initiate, track, and monitor ongoing maintenance and support services
Develop and track metrics related to our product and service performance both internally and with customer
Lead review of lessons learned to foster a culture for continual improvement

Accountable for

Continuous customer relationship management
Customer advocacy into Ciena End-to-end process management (product and services)
Delivering results against in-service challenges
Support for end-to-end Ciena services solution
Manage the service delivery life cycle
Metrics reporting (from delivery groups) & action planning
Executive escalation management
Contract renewals and entitlements
Delivery of services and revenues

Ultimately responsible for product and service delivery to the satisfaction of the customer and Ciena


BS or equivalent in engineering, computer science, business, or related fields or relevant work experience
Experience in telephony, high-speed data communications, or network deployment or working knowledge of Cienas products, product engineering, or service deployment a plus
PMP Certification a plus
History of working in a matrix management environment with success in motivating people without direct reporting relationships
Ability to learn and grasp technical concepts in fiber optic or high-speed data communications
Demonstrated skills in desktop applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and Outlook software
