Description

Position Purpose & Summary

- The Customer Data Owner will be responsible to drive efficiencies as well as value creation through customer data management, data exploitation, data-enabled strategies and driving business outcomes through the use of data

- In this position, the Customer Data Owner will develop and execute the data strategy for customer data globally across all Cargill enterprises and functions

- This will include partnering with enterprise and functional leadership teams to identify high priority areas where customer data and insights will drive unique value for the corporation

- This position will be accountable to develop and drive an end-to-end customer data strategy and roadmap for all of Cargill, including the business case and practical first steps for execution; participate and help define and run Cargill-wide governance and enable customer data as an asset; lead a cultural change in which customer data is viewed as a strategic business asset

- It is expected that this leader works across Cargill to build a sustainable Customer Data Management capability that will continue to innovate and mature as the business needs evolve

Principal Accountabilities

40% Strategy Development and Thought Leadership

- Develop and execute a strategy, plan, and processes to effectively govern the use of customer data at Cargill

- Support the Data Guild in driving forward Cargills data strategy More specifically, deeply understand the broad organizational requirements placed on customer data; this includes both global (eg Cargill wide) requirements, as well as local (eg Enterprise/business/department) requirements and must consider both internal and external needs

- Design customer data attributes (names, definitions, rules and patterns) that must be true for all of Cargill and govern additional customer data attributes that may be true for specific enterprise and function requirements

- Review and assess current data capabilities and needs (eg master data management, certified data-sets, metadata); Design and lead plan to build appropriate level of sustainable capabilities within Cargill as it relates to customer data

- Work with the Cargill business & process leaders to gather their requirements for customer data and develop a data strategy and plan to execute against those process standards/expectations

- Publish metrics on customer data showing measures of value and success (eg adoption of standards, data quality, insights generated, value realization)

- Externally benchmark customer data standards, including connecting with external companies to share best practices

40% Data & Analytics Strategy Execution and Governance

- Ensure effective processes are in place to provide accurate, timely, and insightful customer data including data management concepts (eg data latency, integrity, masking, retention)

- Enhance and influence the integration of data processes, designs and governance across Cargill for the customer data domain

- Develop and maintain controls on data quality, interoperability and sources to effectively manage corporate risk associated with customer data

- The Customer Data Owner must understand the classification of customer data and any associated security, legal, or contractual requirements as a result of the classification The owner must monitor and drive compliance to those requirements

- Accountable for any audit findings related to customer data

- Participate in developing certified data sets and master data that provide high business value and prevent wasted effort spent building redundant, less reliable data Owners should also promote the reuse of their data sets and help educate consumers on the meaning and appropriate use of the data Ultimately, the data owner represents the brand of the data domain both internally and externally

- Document patterns on how customer data will be accessed and ensures there is proper process and data compliance

- Ultimate decision maker when disagreements arise among systems that he/she controls They also participate in the Data Guild when asked, to resolve issues between business units, business functions, architects, or analysts

- Responsible for understanding and governing customer data across all enterprises and functions from data definition through data disposal working with Enterprise Data Leads within the different enterprises and functions

20% Change Leadership

- Support exploitation of strategic and tactical business opportunities, and be a champion for a data-driven, decision-making culture

- Data owners must ensure that there is enough support to provide quality, expertise, and clarity to the concepts they own, often leading to multi-tiered Data Stewards

- Provide leadership for customer data practitioners that may reside in different parts of the organization

- As part of data leadership within Cargill, this role will be a key change agent to drive the understanding (and formulation) of what it means to treat data as a strategic asset

- This role will interact at all levels of the organization in an education role and building a culture of curiosity

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

- BA/BS in Business (Accounting and/or Finance), IT, or Computer Science or equivalent

- 15 years of business experience with a combination of Business Process, IT, and/or Data Management experiences

- 7 years direct experience in a Data Management capacity

- Ability, as exhibited from past experiences, to build and explain a robust data management operating model and focused culture

- Familiarity with modern technologies

- Proficient with data visualization software (Tableau, Power BI, etc)

- Strong collaboration and influencing skills

- Demonstrated ability to be successful in ambiguous situations

- Demonstrated experience managing cost/quality/schedule controls

- Experience working in a matrixed and leveraged organization

- Demonstrated ability to understand business requirements and identify data patterns, trends and risks

- Knowlege of quality improvement or process improvement tools and techniques or willingness and aptitude to learn them (ie Lean, 6 Sigma)

- Demonstrated ability to break down complex issues

- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and effectively navigate the organization to identify where expertise resides

- Experience interacting effectively, confidentially and appropriately with various levels management and customers

- Business fluency in English and local languages as defined

- Ability to travel up to 20%

Preferred Qualifications

- Masters Degree (MBA)
