Why this role matters

This role is responsible for creating accurate and timely multi-brand data that supports decision making across Finance and the wider Consumer Unit

What youll be doing

To work developing new consolidated consumer finance data sets for BT customer data These data sets will be used across the function and will provide core information for reporting and analytical teams including key value (CCV/ROI) reporting metrics
Working across the business to understand the complexities of the BT data and how the definitions and business rules differ between brands with the aim of alignment
Working independently and proactively Be able to understand the requirements, work with stakeholders, and develop and build solutions that are thoroughly tested
Clearly communicate information to the wider business concerning data quality, improvements, fixes etc and be able to respond to any questions
To interrogate the data when there are data quality problems and highlight the source of any potential issues
To provide clear analysis of why a problem has occurred and how a fix to the problem will result in corrected data Be able to present the findings to a business audience as well as an IT audience
Create and manipulate datasets to enable pertinent business questions to be answered in an accurate and timely fashion
Ensure existing data sets owned by the team are up to date and accurate by monitoring processes and analysing data quality within the tables
Utilising a wide variety of data sources and tools (SQL (Netezza/Oracle)), UNIX, SAS, Qlik to provide actionable insight and analysis to support the objectives of both the area and wider business
Accountable for stewarding, leading and partnering with the business, ensuring all business activities are carried out in accordance with local legislative requirements, which enhance and protect BT for now and the future

Skills required for the job
Possess an armoury of highly technical skills required to create large scale, multi user datasets within a structured IT environment using industry standard systems and processes
Demonstratable financial modelling skills and analytical methodologies including problem solving, deep dive analysis, gap analysis, reconciliation etc
Communication skills - translating complex financial outcomes to senior financial and nonfinancial stakeholders through both oral and written communication Ability to tailor message to the relevant audience, distilling key messages without losing the appropriate level of detail
Ability to quickly establish credibility and respect and build strong working collaborative relationships and influence business partners
Demonstrable professionalism with a proven ability to operate in a complex, fast paced matrixed business environment
Bias towards bold and confident thinking, challenging the status quo where appropriate
Patience and experience of navigating large, complex organisational structures
Able to deal with ambiguity, identify resources to implement and determine pragmatic solutions

Experience you would be expected to have
Demonstrable experience of SQL coding, preferably Netezza/Oracle and understanding of relational database principles working with large tables of data 100m rows
Extensive understanding of data warehousing concepts and schemas including ETL processes
Extensive experience of data modelling within a commercial industry (telecoms preferred), and its financial and commercial drivers
Change management / project management experience is desirable
