About the opportunity Department Description

GFAS Application Support department is responsible for 24 X 7 production support, development & maintenance of the mission critical GFAS application that runs on the AS/400 All the Dealing in Mutual Funds, Investment Trusts and Equities is managed by the GFAS system & is used by thousands of users spread across geographies in Europe & Asia GFAS is used not just at FIL but has also been marketed as a service-product to various other large mutual fund companies in Europe

Purpose of your role

Need highly motivated individual to work in Retail Administration System support team for supporting applications based on iSeries (GFAS Core) but interfacing with other AAA applications / components like Workstation, Services, BPM, workflow, Web etc as well as systems of 3rd party associates and partners

The incumbent is expected to work on CLP, RPG and RPGLE programs The work involves providing application support (ie resolving user reported issue in accurate & timely manner) & functional enhancements and development for initiatives in this area The successful candidate will report to one of the project leaders

Advanced Knowledge of design and development of applications on iSeries platform, primarily relating to RPG ILE, CL ILE and SQL ILE is a must Advanced Knowledge of DB2/400 concepts and associated methodologies are desirable Exposure to WMB/MQ, ETL like Informatica, Java, SQL Server and Oracle would be an advantage A strong knowledge of iSeries Operating systems work management and job control is requisite

In order to provide support and services to customers, the successful candidate may be required to work UK or India business hours & provide On-call support outside the normal business hours This demanding role would perfectly suit a dynamic individual looking to work in a fast paced environment to ensure the smooth running of business critical systems

Key Responsibilities

Analysis of existing Application Programs
Impact Analysis for any changes required
Investigate issues reported on the application system to be able to understand user problems & identify root cause (analyse code, run debugger etc) and apply appropriate fix to resolve the issue
Ensure development quality standards are met
Interact with the customers to understand their problems, provide solutions or workarounds, and at times guide/train them on how to use the application system

Experience and Qualifications Required

Technical related

3 - 6 years of RPG / RPGLE development / application support experience
Sound technical knowledge on AS/400 application programming
Sound analytical and debugging skills
Must be Hands-on with SQL scripting as well as on diagnosis and remedy of failing jobs on iSeries

Knowledge of DB2/400 concepts and associated methodologies with working experience of journaling and commitment control
Sound documentation and testing skills
Exposure to near real-time data interfaces between commercial applications eg using Data Mirror, WMB/MQ, ETL, would be an advantage
Exposure to market standard Swift/B2B, EMX, Banking interfaces will be a much desired bonus
Exposure to other interfacing technology like Java, SQL Server and Oracle would be an advantage

Business Domain related

Exposure to the Finance industry would be an advantage
Strong interest and willingness to understand the Mutual Funds Business
