Function Description

- The General Counsels Office consists of a global legal team offering full legal support to its business partners located across the world This Role will be in Employment Law Group that is a part of GCO

Purpose of the Role

- This role will require supporting and advising the Human Resources team for all business lines in American Express India, where there is an employee strength of approximately 14,000 The Employee and Labour Relations team and the Compensations team will be the main client focus of this role

- The demands of the role require a considerable degree of flexibility, reflecting the matrix structure of the business The candidate will need to establish themselves as a partner to the HR functions to advise on day to day employment law matters

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide support to the Human Resources teams in India directly delivering employment law advice on a day to day basis

- Working closely with Compensation and Benefits team and Employee Relations to identify and correct gaps in complying with employment laws and regulations Specifically keeping in mind the latest amendments in Law

- Advising in relation to disciplinary matters and process

- Provide support on the implementation of legal developments and initiatives and review of related materials, drafting of policies and procedures

- Manage litigation and working with outside counsel, ER team and business owners

Past Experience

- India qualified lawyer specializing in employment law In-house experience preferred

- Must have experience either practice or in-house in providing advice on a wide range of employment issues including on disciplinary issues (with through knowledge of the Industrial Disputes Act), discrimination, grievance, redressal procedures, changes to terms and conditions of employment, severance, redundancy & reorganization issues, various Shops and Establishment Acts across India(Specifically Karnataka, Haryana and Maharashtra) and Labour Compliances

- Experience in drafting Employment Policies and Employment related documents

- Experience in advising on issues of Provident Fund, Pensions and Statutory Benefits(Maternity, ESI and Bonus)

- Experience with employment laws related to a Bank a bonus

Qualifications

Academic Background

- LLB (Regular) with at lease 6 years of relevant exp
