Function Description

- Global Commercial Services (GCS) accounts for nearly 50% of American Express- card spend GCS continues to be a fast growing business within American Express with the key objectives of accelerating growth, increasing profitability, and enhancing product value propositions to meet client needs

- The Data, Strategy & Insights (DS&I) India team within GCS is instrumental in driving these objectives by providing actionable data driven insights and consultative solutions to sales, account development and product across the globe The role is an exciting opportunity to be part of the GCS growth story in a dynamic, intellectually stimulating, open, fun and collaborative environment

- DS&I team uses rich closed loop data to build internal and client facing analytical solutions These solutions cater to the needs of GCS sales, ADs and senior leadership, who manage thousands of clients across various segments

- This team will be responsible for developing these solutions to drive efficiency and scalability Additionally, there is critical need to build a repository of self service off-the-shelf tools and data capabilities that can be leveraged by business users

- The Supplier Payments (B2B) field tools is responsible for providing deep, actionable insights to field/ sales folks by analyzing the clients Accounts Payable/ spend files as well as leveraging the power of Amexs Integrated Network data

- The key focus of the insights is to help field drive conversation with prospects and existing clients to drive savings, process improvements, gain working capital etc via recommending Amex products in their Supplier Payments world

Purpose of the Role

- Develop, design and deploy various insights solutions that can be leveraged by analytical and business team to support acquisition, expansion and retention of commercial clients


- Analyze the clients Financials/ Accounts Payable (spend) files to establish the working capital/ cash flow benefits, AXP acceptance footprint respectively

- Improve existing analysis relevance through advanced analytical and personalization capabilities

- Deliver statistical analysis/ predictive models (regression, decision trees, time series, ARIMA, ARIMAX, Holtwinters etc), spend analysis, insightful reporting, improve data integrity & management, and create analytics to help the leadership as well as field team evaluate and drive business performance

- Assist the ad-hoc analysis/critical RFP initiatives to be undertaken by the team for information visibility to the stakeholders and help them develop strategies for growth-oriented actions

- Develop through iterative prototyping new insights solutions leveraging your data and insights generation expertise, using tools like HIVE, Python, SQL, VBA and present using data visualization tools like Tableau/ Power BI

- Create and maintain SOP documentation for all process specific tasks

Critical Factors to Success

- Enable data driven actionable insights for field & clients to enable growth and retention

- Conduct prototyping of insights products and services based on client needs

- Create alternate revenue streams by monetizing insights products

- Conceptualize and develop insights solutions for sales team/ clients

- Strengthen solution algorithms to make them industry-leading insights products for American Express through internal and external research

Past Experience

- 3-5 years of work exp in financial anaytics, accounts payable or payments analytics, Procurement / Procure-to-pay analytics

- Knowledge of taxation would be an added advantage

Academic Background

- Minimum bachelor degree from reputed institute in Commerce

- Masters degree in Commerce, Statistics, Finance/ Accounts Payable, Business or related fields (desired)

Functional Skills/Capabilities

Mandatory Skills

- High attention to details and capable of analyzing large datasets and ability to generate effective insides through data visualization and analysis

- Strong communication skills in order to be able to communicate clearly and concisely

- Demonstrate teamwork with strong personal accountability, commitment and integrity

- Ability to work in high-pressure situations with minimal errors

Desirable Skills

- Know-how about Payments Industry

- Knowledge of taxation would be an added advantage

Technical Skills/Capabilities

- Strong-hold on MS-Office suite of products (Advanced Excel and PowerPoint) - Good knowledge on Excel/SQL/SAS/ Predictive modeling/ Python

Knowledge of Platforms Big Data Cornerstone
