Description and Purpose of Role

- The mission of the Operational Risk Governance Group (ORGG) is to drive the operational risk program at American Express in a comprehensive and complete manner to enable growth for the enterprise, while being consistent with expectations of the Companys legal and regulatory requirements

- The Process Risk Self-Assessment (PRSA) Office is responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining the corporate-wide PRSA Framework and supporting standards, training, tools and methodologies As part of the second line of defense, they provide effective challenge on the adequacy of operational risk management through monitoring activities

- Through a collaborative partnership with the Business and other key Amex teams, the PRSA Office provides operational risk guidance and oversight through the design, implementation and ongoing management of the Companys Operational Risk Framework

Job Responsibilities

- The incumbent will support the development, deployment, monitoring, and reporting of operational risk assessment tools and techniques throughout American Express- business areas and legal entities

Specifically, this role will

- Support the development and implementation of risk assessment tools and processes

- Provide support to maintain guidelines and policies for the deployment of risk assessment activities

- Coordinate with operational risk subject matter experts to ensure full integration of operational risk areas

- Support business units and staff groups in the deployment of risk assessment activities throughout their organizations and in a manner consistent with prescribed policy and guidance

- Support in qualitative and quantitative analysis of risk assessment results for quality, trends and themes, and for data that exceeds established escalation thresholds

- Support with the review of risk assessment data for linkage/integration with other components of the operational risk framework

- Drive analytics to assess and improve overall Operational Excellence (OE) relationships

- Enable the Risk Assessment activities of the Companys operational risk framework across AXP by collaborating with ORGG colleagues and OE Teams across all business unit and staff groups

- Provide support for the preparation of appropriate reporting for oversight committees and senior management

- Maintain documentation on team shared folders and SharePoint sites

- Track and follow-up on deliverables from business partners (eg approvals, meeting submissions, action items)

- The individual needs to be able to prioritize multiple project streams and tasks and should be self-motivated to thrive in an environment with ad-hoc activities and various project initiatives that will impact the enterprise

- They should also have the ability to work collaboratively with ORGG colleagues and the business units in executing multiple operational risk initiatives simultaneously

Language English

Qualifications (Past Experience and Academic Background and Functional Skills)

- 1 - 3 year experience in the financial services industries preferred

- Strong project management skills with meticulous attention to detail and methodical, organized approach to managing assignments

- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with operational risk colleagues, business area points of contact and leaders

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Strong team player and collaboration skills

- Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word, Visio

- Educational requirement CPA/CA, CIA, or MBA Preferred

- Preferred Additional Operational Risk Management, Internal Control, Public Accounting, and/or Process Reengineering Experience

- Past Experience in Process Risk Self- Assessment (PRSA), Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) or Control Self-Assessment (CSA)
